Why it matters

Guttering is the part of the house everyone ignores, until it fails.

Guttering that falls and overflows causes damp at the eaves, water ingress behind the fascia, and rot in the rafters over time. Joints that aren’t seated correctly drip constantly against the wall below. Downpipes disconnected from the underground drainage send water pooling against the foundations.

None of these consequences are dramatic or immediate. They accumulate over years. Guttering replacement is a day’s work done right. It’s months of water damage done wrong. We fit guttering correctly: correct fall grades, properly sealed joints, downpipes connected to underground drainage, and fascias replaced where they’ve rotted behind the old guttering.

Guttering types

What Kind of Guttering Work Do You Need?

From a full guttering replacement to fascia boarding and downpipe connections, we carry out every type of eaves and rainwater work in-house.

🌧️

Full Guttering Replacement

Half-round, square-line or ogee UPVC guttering, correctly fall-graded from the outset. Old guttering removed, new guttering fitted with properly sealed joints throughout.

🏠

Fascia & Soffit Replacement

UPVC capping over existing timber, or full timber removal and replacement where rot has set in behind the old guttering. We check the condition of the timber before recommending either option.

📐

Bargeboards & Verge Trim

Gable ends, bargeboards and verge trim replaced in UPVC or timber. Correctly fitted and sealed to prevent water ingress at the gable ends.

🔩

Downpipes & Drainage Connection

Correctly sized downpipes positioned and connected to underground drainage. We clear debris from the existing drainage as part of every installation.

Everything included

Old guttering out, new guttering in. Correctly, first time.

A proper guttering installation covers more than just hanging new plastic. Here’s everything we carry out on a full guttering and fascia replacement.

  • Remove existing guttering
  • Replace fascia board (where rotted)
  • Fit new UPVC fascia capping or full replacement
  • New soffit board
  • New bargeboards (where applicable)
  • New UPVC guttering, correctly fall-graded
  • Sealed joints throughout
  • New downpipes, correctly sized
  • Downpipe shoe and connection to drain or butt
  • Debris clearance from existing drainage
  • Seal fascia to brickwork where required
  • All waste removed

We flow-test the guttering before we leave the site. Not something many installers do, but the only reliable way to confirm the fall grades and joints are correct.

Our process

How Your Guttering Replacement Comes Together

Four clear stages: inspection first, flow-test before we leave. Here’s what to expect when you work with GSM on a guttering project.

01

Inspection

Gaz inspects guttering, fascias and soffits, checking fall grade, joint condition and the condition of the timber fascia behind. We won’t recommend capping over rotted timber.

02

Written Quote

Materials and labour itemised, fascia replacement vs capping vs guttering-only clearly separated. No hidden costs for timber replacement discovered on the day.

03

Programme

Usually a 1–2 day job depending on house size. Scaffold or ladders depending on height and access. Start date agreed and confirmed before we arrive.

04

Fit & Test

New guttering fitted with correct fall grades and sealed joints. Flow-tested with water before sign-off, the only reliable way to confirm it’s working correctly.

Real Projects. Real Customers.

Our Guttering & Fascias Work

Where we work

Guttering & Fascias Across Chesterfield & Derbyshire

We’re based in Chesterfield and carry out guttering and fascia work across a 20-mile radius, a day’s work on most properties, and close enough that Gaz can attend the site personally.

Chesterfield Victorian Terraces

Original wooden fascias on many Victorian terraces in Chesterfield are 100+ years old, often rotted behind plastic guttering fitted directly over them. We inspect the timber before recommending capping vs full replacement. A capped rotten fascia is a problem deferred, not solved.

1960s–80s Housing Across Derbyshire

First-generation UPVC guttering on properties across Dronfield, Clay Cross and Alfreton is now failing: joints cracking, fall grades lost, fascia boards beginning to flex. Full replacement with new UPVC is the right answer at this age.

Re-Roof Programme Integration

Guttering and fascias replaced while scaffold is already up during a re-roof, efficient and cost-effective. We include this in the programme on most re-roof projects where guttering is showing signs of failure. No second mobilisation cost.

Period Properties

Some period properties in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire retain cast iron guttering and wooden fascias. We repair and replace in kind where required, including for conservation area properties where UPVC may not be appropriate.

FAQ

Guttering Questions Answered

The most common questions homeowners ask us before starting a guttering or fascia project in Chesterfield and Derbyshire.

Only if the existing fascia is sound. UPVC capping over timber is an option if the timber is in good condition. It’s a faster and less expensive route. But we check the condition of the timber behind before recommending capping vs full replacement. Capping over a rotted fascia is not a fix.
A standard semi-detached house typically takes 1 day. A larger detached property or a property requiring new fascia boards throughout is 2–3 days. We’ll give you a specific programme with your quote.
Yes, where possible. The scaffold is already up. Replacing guttering and fascias at the same time avoids a second mobilisation cost and means everything is renewed together. We include this in the programme on most re-roof projects where the existing guttering is showing signs of failure.
Half-round is the most common residential profile and suitable for most properties. Square-line suits more modern builds. Ogee profile is typically found on older properties where the original was cast iron, and we match it in UPVC where appropriate. We’ll advise on the right profile for your property at the inspection.
It goes down the wall, saturates the brickwork, and eventually finds its way inside. Blocked and broken guttering is one of the most common causes of penetrating damp in older properties. We clear all debris from the existing drainage as part of every guttering installation.
